what to expect when you quit drinking

For people on the fence about here are a few things i have noticed .

These changes take an extended amount of time
if anyone expects to quit and feel better tomorrow - Thats not going to happen .

In fact be prepared to feel worse . ( SEEK DOCTORS ADVICE BEFORE YOU QUIT. )

The unexpected trip to the hospital is not fun .
For those of is with high deductables on out medical insurance its expensive too .

now on to the meat and taters part of this rambling .The days 1-3 will be pretty unplesent .In a hospital they will give meds to keep the heart rate and BP to safe levels.

the skakes , cold chills , puking , seeing things ,hearing things ,and depresdion are real .

Id advise studying what will happen first , that way it wont be scary .

My quitting could have been much easier had i not decided to just white knuckle it . very dangerous to do it the farmer way .I wound up in the hospital anyway . My EMT:/FF son said i was at dangerous stroke BP .( ALL could have been not a problem if i had got medical advice FIRST ) ,

On to the next parts , the extended medical and psyical symptoms will last at least a month .

I got back to the farm and went right to work . That helped me alot .

I went from the highest level of care to not be in ICU they had . again thats totally avoidable .

Expect at least a month of night sweats and bad sleep .
not fun but tolerable . The hospital sent me home meds - i did not take them , stupid well mabe .

Now on to the good arts - these make it worth it .

1- you will get WAY better sleep
2-digestive problems will go away or be way better
3-better energy
4-better attitude , to include better temper
5- get alot more done .
6- you will be proud of your self for beating alcohol
, your people close to you will be proud of you too .
7-this one takes a while , your BP might go to normal levels . mine almost has . that takes several months .
8- you will not be spending money on some worthless poison .
9- business decisions will be better .
10- wife will sure be happier .

I have no idea why this came into my mind today . I figured there must be a reason for me to do this .

I hope someone reading this is helped by my rambling.

I absolutely refuse to become one of those hypocrites that
looks down on people that drink -im a drunk too
just a sober drunk .

And to answer the question am i in AA , no i am not.
I may go visit one day . Nothing bad about it .

Any of you on the fence - just get medical help and do it .

I went through something similar last year and what helped me stay on track was finding support beyond just family. Outpatient treatment orange county offered group sessions that really cleared my head and gave me tools to handle stress better. I kept up with work on the farm and felt less alone with all the pressure. Having folks to talk to who get it made more difference than I expected.
